Abstract
The study aimed to explore the effectiveness of a proposed educational program on sustainable health on shaping eighth grade students’ attitudes towards the medical specialists and general self-efficacy in the Sultanate of Oman. The study used a quasi-experimental design, and the sample consisted of 137 male and female eighth-grade students in the Sultanate of Oman. The sample was divided into groups: an experimental group of 65 students who were taught using the proposed educational program on sustainable health, and a control group of 71 students who have not studied the program. The study employed two instruments: the first instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 36 items measuring students' attitudes towards medical specialties, which were categorized into three main dimensions. The reliability of the instrument was determined using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, which was found to be 0.902. The second instrument was a questionnaire consisting of 10 items measuring students' self-efficacy. The reliability of this instrument was determined to be 0.758 using Cronbach's alpha coefficient.
The results showed that there was no statistically significant difference at the level of α = 0.05 in the attitudes of basic education students in the Sultanate of Oman towards medical specializations. As for the general self-efficacy variable, the study showed that there was a statistically significant difference in favor of the experimental group. The study recommended the implementation of the proposed educational program on sustainable health due to its effectiveness in fostering positive attitudes and enhancing self-efficacy toward medical careers among students in the school environment.
