Abstract

The Prophetic hadith on ablution as getting angry cannot be categorized below ‘hasan’ or good. However, Ibn Hibban alone stated that “It seems as if it were fabricated.” Some contemporary scholars have claimed that this hadith is weak because of their different views regarding one of the narrators of this hadith: Abu Wail Al-Qass al-Sanaani. However, the preferred opinion is that the narrator was Abdullah bin Bahr bin Risan, who is one narrator rather than two. Ibn Hibban differentiated between being weak and fabricated. However, ten hadith scholars strengthened this hadith. Among the evidence for accepting Ibn Hibban’s narration is that he provided verbal and semantic evidence. Furthermore, hadith scholars accepted his narrations and treated them in one manner.  Jurists used this hadith as evidence to allow wudu’ when angry. Finally, recent medical studies support the meaning of this hadith.
