Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the phenomenon of psychological stress among Al- karak educational district's teachers. The sample of this study consisted of (406) teachers of both gender who were randomely chosen from all schools in the Al- Karak Districts, for the school year 2000/2001, A - 49 item questionnaire was designed for collecting data to test the purposes of this study .The results showed that teachers suffering from psychological stress and it was above the hypothetical mean, and most stress was related to the dimensions of income, local community extra curriculam, school environment and the teaching process. The results also showed that there were significant differences (,.05= oc) in some deminsions (income, supervision, process, relation with local community, and students) due to gender in favor of male teachers, and to marital status infavor of single teachers on dimensions of educational supervison and teaching process. Regarding the teacher qualification, the results have shown that there were no significant differnces on the deminsions of stress except to relation with local communaity in favor ofM.A degree. The results showed that there were significant correlation (= 0.05) between the years of experience and some dimensions including income, supervision process, and the relation with local community and students parnets. The findings were discussed and the recommendations were addressed Accordingly.
