Abstract
There are many objective reasons that have brought into existence
what Philosophy historians called Modern Philosophy that created the
present Western Civilization and paved the way for issues in
Contemporary Philosophy. Modern Philosophy has split into two main
schools: Rationalism and Empiricism both of which led to what is
known today as Secularism and this point will not be discussed here.
In this short paper I reviewed and analyzed -what I thought - some
of the most important reasons for the emergence of Modern Philosophy.
This is done through the most important features of the intellectual life
to what is known in the history of Europe as The Age of Faith (The
Dark Ages). The Age of Faith was based on the Clerics theory of
religious thought, which eliminated by the Renaissance. The
Renaissance represented an introduction to Modern Philosophy as it
contained introductory thoughts that eliminated the Clerics.
In this study, I followed the historical analytical approach in the
selection of research data. Soon this approach guided me to an amazing
result that the Clerics - as a theory for understanding, interpretation and
application of religion - was serious in overwhelming the whole life
with a religious nature developed by powerful men who believed in
what they sought and worked hard towards applying it in all walks of
life. I have chosen to study some aspects of Philosophy, Science, Art,
and Monasticism which represented the spiritual and practical life of
that era. Surprisingly I found the result of application is quite possible in
a way- regardless of its cost in life. On the other hand, it was amazing to
see a serious attempt and its results on the ground. The interesting result
that I found was that religion- as a theoretical thought elicited from a
sacred text - can be applied in life, regardless of the reliability of
elicitation process or the source elicited from.
