Abstract

This paper endeavors to approach al-Farabi's philosophy through presenting his concept of "happiness" as the cornerstone and ultimate goal of his philosophical system . This, in my humble view, is a fresh and an-unprecedented reading of this .great muslim philosopher The paper will try to achieve its intended goal by discussing many key concepts of al-Farabi's philosophy on politics, ethics, metaphysics, epistemology and the like to demonstrate the above mentioned approach The paper does not fail to give a comprehensive exposition of the idea of Happiness - by explaining its concept as" a human attempt to raise from all -materialistic concerns and transform himself spiritually", which - according to al .Farabi- should be the main function of any philosophy worth the name.
