The Status of Scientific Research at the Public Universities of Jordan and Future Expectations
Abstract
The study aimed at answering the following: • What is the status of scientific research at Jordanian public Universities? • What are the expectations of scientific research at the public Universities of Jordan for the first quarter of the 21st century? • What are the preferred expectations for the first quarter of the 21st century? The population consisted of the teaching staff of the University of Jordan, Yarmouk University and Mu'ta University (N=874). The sample was randomly drawn from the population (N=438). The instrument consisted of (13) items concerning the status of scientific research. Another instrument was administered to (20) experts of university instruction to identify futuer expectations and the preferred ones using Delphi technique with two rounds. The results related to examining the status of scientific research at Jordan showed that the degree of performing the tasks of scientific research was fair above the hypothesized average (3) and percentage (60). The tasks that received the hypothesized values were few. Results of future expectations indicated consensus on all but two items of the instrument during the first round, but full consensus in the second. Regarding preferred expectations of the future there was consensus on all items in the first round.
