Abstract
This study was conducted to identify the level of knowledge of postgraduate students at the College of Education at Sultan Qaboos University for the academic year (2022/2023) about epidemics, and its relationship to their attitudes towards health citizenship. To achieve the objectives of the study, a knowledge test for epidemics was constructed, which included six topics: the concept of epidemics, their history, the reasons for their spread, the consequences of its spread, methods of treating it, and the Sultanate’s role in combating it. An attitude scale was built that included three axes: knowledge of healthy citizenship, commitment to healthy citizenship behaviors, participation in promoting the values of healthy citizenship, and to verify the validity of the two tools, they were presented to experienced arbitrators. The stability of the two tools was also verified by applying them to a sample outside the study sample, and the internal consistency reliability coefficient was calculated using the Cronbach’s Alpha equation, where it reached (0.60) in the knowledge test, while it reached (0.82) in the attitude scale. The two tools were applied to a sample consisting of (66) male and female students. The results found that the level of students’ knowledge of epidemics was very low, while their attitudes toward health citizenship were highly positive. Therefore, the study recommended the necessity of developing educational courses that keep pace with rapid changes to raise the level of graduate students’ knowledge of epidemics in a way that enhances the values of health citizenship in them.
