The Extent to which Educational Counselors Intervention Skills Abilities to Deal with Crises in Central Palestine Governorate Schools
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which educational counselors posses intervention skills' and abilities to deal with crises in central Palestine governorate schools. In addition, the study investigated differences in counselor skills in dealing with crises, based in various variables like gender, specialization, educational qualification, years of experience, and school type. For the purpose of this study, a sample (n=200) had been chosen from counselors working in both UNRWA and public schools. The researcher developed a questionnaire consisting of (67) items, reflecting counselor intervention skills in dealing with crisis, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The questionnaire had appropriate validity and reliability (a.= 0.92) indexes. The collected data and statistical analysis revealed the following: The overall mean for counselor skills in dealing with crises was (Jl=4.13), which indicates a high level. Nevertheless, there were no statistically significant differences in the level of counselor intervention skills in dealing with crises, based on the variables of gender, specialization, educational qualifications, or years of experience. However, there were statistically significant differences in the level of counselor intervention skills in dealing with crises, based on school type. The level of counselor intervention skills in UNRWA schools was high compared to those in public schools.
