Faculty Members Perception toward the Employment of Economic Citizenship Education in the General Education Stages in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract
The current study dealt with one of the most important modern trends in citizenship education, which is economic citizenship as applied to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It aimed to investigate the perceptions of faculty members towards employing economic citizenship in the stages of public education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The study followed the qualitative approach - the method of grounded theory. The study sample consisted of (13) faculty members specialized in citizenship, economics, and educational social studies. The semi-structured interview questions were used as a tool to monitor their perceptions, and the validity and reliability values necessary for the tool were verified.
The results of the study showed that the concept of economic citizenship has multiple economic and educational perspectives, and that its ultimate goal is to raise qualified economic citizens to effectively practice four main economic processes, namely: rational consumption, quality and quantity of production, achieving financial savings, and successful investment. The study also indicated the existence of main directions for economic citizenship education, most notably are: the country’s pioneering experiences in economic national values education, adherence to international standards for economic citizenship education, and the gradual inclusion of the components of economic citizenship education in citizenship curricula. The results showed that there are three main fields of education for economic citizenship, which are: the field of economic knowledge, the field of economic values, and the field of economic skills. The results also revealed a set of appropriate learning approaches for economic citizenship education in the stages of Saudi public education, the most important of which are: constructivist learning, service learning, experiential learning, participatory learning, competitive learning, and self-learning. Finally, the results revealed several challenges facing economic citizenship education in the stages of Saudi public education, including the lack of awareness among members of society of the importance of economic citizenship education, the scarcity of specialists, and the rapid growth of knowledge. The study concluded the most important conclusions, and presented a set of recommendations and proposals suitable for the study.
