Instructions on Publishing Research that Derive from Theses

 

These instructions serve as a guide for publication of research extracted from or based on master’s and doctoral theses at the {Journal Name}, as follows:

  1. Author Attribution

    The student who authored the thesis must be listed as the primary author of any research extracted from their academic work and submitted for publication.

  2. Supervisor Attribution

    The thesis supervisor may be listed as a co-author only if they have made a clear scholarly contribution to the development of the extracted research and its transformation into a publishable article.

    The supervisor’s name must not be included as honorary author or if they did not directly contribute to preparing, developing, and reviewing the final version of the manuscript submitted for publication.

  3. Permission to Publish Research Extracted from Theses

    • The author has the right to publish research extracted from or based on their academic thesis (master’s or doctoral), provided that they comply with the research ethics and the journal’s publishing standards, while ensuring the rights of and complying with the conditions established by the academic institution granting the degree.
  4. Extent of Extraction

    • The submitted extracted version of the thesis submitted for publishing at the journal must constitute a scholarly reworking of the thesis content and must not be a verbatim reproduction of its chapters or original text. The paper must adhere to the journal’s research and publishing standards and avoid excessive overlap.
  5. Reference to the Thesis in the Published Version

    The author must indicate in the first footnote of the published article that the research is based on their thesis. If the thesis has been formally approved, full details of the thesis (title, program, university, and year) must be provided.
