Advocating the Use of Computational Text Network Analysis in the Doha Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, An Applied Model on "Kashshāf iṣṭilāḥāt al-Funūn wa-al-ʻUlūm"
Abstract
In the realm of computational linguistics, our research endeavors to unlock the vast potential of intelligent computational treatments for the enrichment of lexical content in Arabic language studies. Specifically, we embarked on an extensive review of the digital content within the Doha Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, aiming to harness a portion of its linguistic blog as valuable raw material. By employing advanced computational intelligence techniques, we localized the text network analysis approach to amplify the lexicon material present in the dictionary.
However, encountering limitations with the digital material of the Doha dictionary prompted us to explore alternative avenues. In this pursuit, we turned to "Kashshāf iṣṭilāḥāt al-Funūn wa-al-ʻUlūm", an indispensable terminological dictionary, to serve as the basis for our computational analysis. Focusing on three carefully selected paragraphs—dedicated to the letter "Ba'a," Science, and Knowledge—we applied intelligent computational analysis techniques to generate a multitude of text networks. These networks effectively extracted embedded knowledge concepts while providing visually captivating representations that can offer readers and researchers the opportunity to review the content before reading it and invest their time in the process of screening more texts instead of wasting time on resources that may not meet the needs of the reader or researcher.
