Interpretive Semiotics: Research in the levels of perception and interpretation
Abstract
Through the signs, Man was able to pass from the physical, natural world to the symbolic cultural world. He was able to produce his own thought and build his positive collective memory, leaving behind all beings without thought, reference or memory, living according to a natural path that does not change, i.e., according to a path which is always repeated, but does not evolve. The sign is the means by which man becomes human, and frees himself from the constraints of nature, to the spaciousness of the culture that gave him symbolic tools in which he deposited his values, hopes and dreams, and included his customs and traditions. Signs have enabled man to reformulate existence outside the constraints of embodiment and the physical presence of things. Thus, he was able to possess this universe mentally and grasp its semantics epistemologically, until he became in control of it with his mental abstractions and symbolic substitutions.
That is the basic claim or hypothesis for my research. It is, also, the same call for which we are driving this research, on the guidance of a theoretical knowledge background, its starting point is interpretive semiotics, and its theme is the sign and the endless process of evidence. This research aims, then, to monitor the components of signs and the mechanisms of their functioning from a semiotic perspective, through three axes. The first axis was devoted to explaining the cognitive background on which interpretative semiotics were based in crystallizing the general perception of the sign. The second and third axis were devoted to examining the details of this perception.
