Abstract

The study deals with the issue of language and identity for the Palestinian thinker, the American upbringing of Edward Said, to reveal the reasons for this connection with its various forms. Social, political, psychological, and aesthetic, and what this connection produced in his political speeches in international forums of the strength of style and the strength of the phrase, as his possession of two heterogeneous identities and two different languages ​​favored the realization of the results of the Palestinian identities, which led to the achievement of the Palestinian identities in the direction of one of them. It is well known in the discourses of freedom and intellectual and political struggle.

In a paradox that contributed to many results, and proceeded towards the realization of the existence of the Palestinian Arab identity in a different way from what is known in the discourses of freedom and intellectual and political struggle.

The research sought to reveal how the original identity is related to the language of identity acquired in Edward Said's memoirs discourse, and his reflections on exile, and to search for the reasons for Edward Said's inclination to the identity of a homeland he has been exiled from for a long time and belonging to it through the language of exile and then dedicate his practical and intellectual life to the struggle for the homeland. And the fact that he adhered to his first language or abandoned it, and what constituted exile for him, which led him to return to the slumber of his first upbringing and turn to political resistance. And other questions that the study had to deal with research and depth of view in order to discuss these questions.

To this end, the study came in a number of axes that answer the questions of the problem of identity and language, and how they are intertwined in Edward Said’s biographical discourse, and the results of achieving this difficult process that followed a long stage of labor before its birth, to find out the same aspects that characterized the roots of the narrative walk And its results and other titles included in the text of this research.

The study concluded that the discourse of identity and its relationship with language according to Edward Said represents a unique aesthetic discourse in all its aspects, chunky and filled with connotations and implicit messages, which result in manifestations of self, ego, identity, and struggle.
