The value discourse in the modern Qatari story: problem and practice
Abstract
This paper is based on the hypothesis that value system is rooted in modern Qatari story, not as a topic or a subject but as a discourse phenomenon. This discourse has a stable position in the Qatari culture. It is noticed in modern Qatari story since the beginning until now. In This paper we will apply a cultural approach to guide us in understanding the motives and the context of the values of writings in the Qatari story. There is no doubt that cultural elements plays a substantial role in individuals behaviours, and that there are always fears of losing the cultural identity or missing the features and values of the society that are linked to a its heritage, religion, history, customs and traditions. These fears arise particularly in confrontation with globalism and postmodernism that threaten this system of values. We noticed two trends of writing: the first one is looking to replace the old values with new ones, to deconstruct some society practices that do not meet a new perspective of the world, where women demand more rights, and the human, in general, seeks more freedom and choices; whereas the second type is trying to maintain the historical value and identity.
