Introduction:

The interplay between human resources management (HRM) and the digital revolution has never been on a scale as great as it is today, thanks to artificial intelligence. This special issue seeks to investigate the transformative nexus between digitalisation and current HRM practices. The significance of this Special Issue lies in four strategic themes: First, recruitment, performance management, and talent development must increasingly rely on artificial intelligence and machine learning. Second, HR analytics and data-driven decision-making. Third, Digital Employee Experience (DEE) and guiding hybrid/remote workforces. Fourth, ethical and privacy considerations regarding the use of new technologies.

This Special Issue encourages and introduces an all-encompassing theoretical framework that extends traditional HRM theories to the new digital context, thereby enriching the scholarly literature. It will develop new frameworks/models to interpret the influence of technology on managerial work, employee activity and organisational performance. Methodologically, the Special Issue topics will provide incentives to investigate challenging and innovative methodologies that can intersect quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis (e.g., big data analytics, case studies, field experiments). It will also support interdisciplinary discourse among academic scholars working in HRM, computer science, organisational psychology, and ethics. From a practical perspective, the Special Issue will offer actionable advice for HR practitioners and executives on how to apply modern technologies while preserving employee well-being and ethical conduct.
