Focus and Scope

The Academic Network for Development Dialogue (ANDD) Paper Series is an annual, peer-reviewed scholarly publication dedicated to advancing knowledge and evidence-based policymaking on sustainable development and public policy in the Arab region, with particular emphasis on Sustainable Development.

The journal aims to promote structured, evidence-based dialogue addressing the region’s key developmental challenges and opportunities. It seeks to move beyond traditional sectoral and technical perspectives by encouraging interdisciplinary cross-sectoral, and policy-relevant approaches.

Each annual volume is organized around a specific thematic focus, carefully selected to reflect pressing development priorities in the Arab region.

 

The ANDD Paper Series seeks to publish high-quality scholarship that contributes to evidence-based policymaking by:

  • Promoting empirical studies that generate robust, data-driven insights
  • Advancing innovative and feasible policy solutions grounded in empirical evidence
  • Addressing systemic and structural challenges through rigorous analytical approaches
  • Supporting the translation of research findings into actionable, scalable, and policy-relevant solutions

 

Types of Contributions

The journal welcomes the following types of contributions:

  • Original Research Papers that are empirically grounded and based on primary or secondary data analysis from reliable and validated sources.
  • Policy Review and Analytical Papers that evaluate policies, programs, interventions, or institutional practices and assess their implications for development outcomes.
  • Review Articles that provide critical syntheses of the literature, evidence base, policy developments, or emerging trends related to the journal's thematic focus.
  • Perspective and Commentary Papers (typically invited) that offer informed reflections on emerging issues, policy debates, or future directions in sustainable development and public policy.
  • Editorials and Introduction Papers (invited) that frame the thematic focus of a volume and highlight key research and policy discussions.

All contributions should:

  • Demonstrate scholarly quality and analytical rigor.
  • Address a clearly defined research, policy, or development issue.
  • Reflect recent developments and innovations in sustainable development and public policy.
  • Take into account regional contexts, priorities, and institutional realities.
  • Promote interdisciplinary approaches and cross-sectoral analysis.
  • Provide evidence-informed insights, recommendations, or implications for policy and practice.
  • Offer feasible, practical, and scalable solutions that contribute to sustainable development.

Purely opinion-based submissions lacking analytical, scholarly, or evidence-based foundations will not be considered for publication. While invited perspective, commentary, and editorial contributions may not follow a conventional empirical research format, they must demonstrate clear relevance to the journal's thematic focus and contribute meaningfully to scholarly and policy dialogue.

 

Annual Themes

Each volume of the Academic Network for Development Dialogue (ANDD) Paper Series is organized around a clearly defined annual theme aligned with regional development priorities and Sustainable Development objectives. 

 

First Volume (2022-2023):
Building on the Similarities between Arab Countries to Foster Sustainable Development
This volume focused on identifying shared structural characteristics across Arab countries and generating evidence‑based policy insights to support regional cooperation and sustainable development pathways.

 

Second Volume (2023-2024) and Third Volume (2024-2025):
Promoting Human Wellbeing and Strengthening Capabilities to Accelerate Sustainable Development in the Arab Region: Lessons Learned and Good Practices
These volumes emphasized policy‑relevant research examining human wellbeing and capability development, highlighting good practices, scalable strategies, and evidence‑based interventions aligned with SDG implementation.

 

Fourth Volume (2025-2026):
Building Urban Resilience: Strengthening Community Resilience for Disaster Risk Reduction in Cities
This volume invites contributions that explore urban resilience and disaster risk reduction through empirically grounded research situated within the science–policy interface. Contributions are expected to generate evidence‑based policy solutions, focusing on community‑level dynamics, policy effectiveness, and enabling conditions, while highlighting innovative, nature‑based, and community‑led approaches. Papers should demonstrate clear methodological rigor, identify scalable intervention strategies, and contribute to advancing resilience‑building outcomes in alignment with the SDGs.

 

Future themes will continue to reflect emerging development priorities in the Arab region and support the ANDD Paper Series' mission of fostering high-quality research, informed policy dialogue, and evidence-based solutions for sustainable development.
